Sanskrit Name:Shatawari, Shatamooli
Common Name:Asparagus
Latin Name:Asparagus Racemosus Willd

Medicinal Properties:Fleshy tuberous roots of the Shatawari are used in the preparations of traditional Ayurvedic products. Shatawari is a well-established herb for its action as a nutritive tonic. In modern times its use is recommended as galactogogue (to enhance lactation in nursing mothers) as the marked increase in lactation by Shatavari has been scientifically proved. Scientifically this effect is credited to its action on the prolactin hormone level. In Ayurvedic literatures it is indicated as Rasayana (Rejuvenator), Balya (improves physical stamina) and as a potent Aphrodisiac.
