Medicinal Properties:Corms of the Sooran are used in various Ayurvedic formulations. The corms cause irritation due to the presence of calcium oxalate. Pickles made up of Suran are used in Indian society as they are rich in nutrients and minerals. Fresh corms are carminative, digestive, liver stimulant and good expectorant and increase appetite and taste. If applied to joints in arthritis it helps to reduce inflammation and thus improve mobility of joints. They are also used in dysentery and external piles.
