Herb Description


Hindi Name:Amaltas
Sanskrit Name:Aragvadha, Rajvraksha.
Common Name:Purging Cassia
Latin Name:Cassia fistula Linn

Medicinal Properties:Dark brown cylindrical pods, bark, leaves and flowers of Amaltas are used in Ayurveda. Decoction of bark of Amaltas is used as a wash and gargle to control purulent pus and discharge and as a local antiseptic for chronic ulcers and wounds of skin and throat. Amaltas fruits are widely used as a laxative. Fruit pulp helps in smooth expectoration in chronic cough and congestion due to Asthma. Fruit pulp helps to maintain the balance of water content in the bowel mass to ensure smooth defecation.

Effect on Dosha:Balances Vata and Pitta.
Main Classical Uses:Aragvadhadi tail, Aragvadhadi Leha, Aragvadharishta.
